As the prospect of remastered Beatles vinyl still remains uncertain, EMI appeared to float an additional trial balloon this weekend, with combo packs of 7 inch vinyl singles and t-shirts showing up in select Target stores this past weekend. The four singles chosen for this limited release were Can't Buy Me Love, b/w You Can't Do That, Help! b/w I'm Down, Hello Goodbye b/w I Am the Walrus, and Let It Be b/w You Know My Name (Look Up the Number). Every title is in mono--except for the Let it Be single, feature the original U.S. sleeves and singles mixes, and are pressed on heavy vinyl. Each single includes a different Beatles t-shirt, sized either S/M or L/XL.
I gave a quick listen to each of the eight sides and found the vinyl to be extremely quiet. Sound quality rivaled that of the excellent 2009 remastered cds. Does this mean we're going to see a full release of remastered Beatles vinyl? Perhaps. Listings for individual remastered vinyl titles have shown up on Amazon.co.uk as pre-orders--and then disappeared, and more recently on Amazon.de, with release dates of September 12, 2011.

Original copies of this particular U.S. picture sleeve are now among the more difficult to find. *Winner will be chosen at random. Prize can only be sent to U.S. addresses, sorry. No substitutions or cash value.

Just happened upon these at our local Target while doing some grocery shopping yesterday. They appeared hastily shoved in the side shelves of an end-cap in the music section - hardly advertised in any way. I was like a kid in a candy store, though. It wasn't a month ago that I thought a re-release of the Beatles' singles seemed like a great collector's item. I haven't found much press for them online, either, so thanks for the write-up.
The vinyl itself may be quiet but the content of the mono singles sounds atrocious!!! Can't Buy Me Love and You Can't Do That have that scratchy distortion which makes the speakers sound like they have a rip in them. The Help! and Hello Goodbye singles are only slightly better while Let It Be is the only good sopunding one in the bunch. I hope these are not an indication what the Black Friday singles will be like let alone any future remastered vinyl Beatles releases.
